Tanzania Mainland
Mainland Tanzania is where the famous names live: the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, and a string of national parks that protect some of the largest wildlife populations on Earth.

Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, a short flight or ferry ride from the mainland. Its two main islands are Unguja, usually just called Zanzibar, and quieter, greener Pemba.

- The North Coast
- The East and South Coast

Tanzania through the year
There is no bad time to visit, only different trips. Here is what each part of the year feels like.
Long rains
Heavy showers, lush landscapes, lowest prices and few visitors. Some camps close.
Cool dry season
Clear skies and easy game viewing. The most popular time for safaris and climbing.
Short rains
Brief showers, green plains and newborn animals. Good value and good birding.
Hot dry season
Hot and mostly dry. Calving in the south of the Serengeti, and a good window for Kilimanjaro.
