Warm lowland town under the mountain, with short and long rains
Climate
Moshi is the calm, tidy town at the foot of Kilimanjaro, and the base for climbs, coffee farms, waterfalls and hot springs.
Most Kilimanjaro climbers pass through Moshi twice, on the night before the climb and the night after. Give it an extra day if you can. The town has a relaxed market, good coffee, and a clear view of the summit on a morning without cloud.
Around it you will find the Chagga villages of the lower slopes, Materuni Waterfalls, the Kikuletwa hot springs, and the gates for every major climbing route.

Moshi or Arusha as a base?
Moshi is quieter and closer to the mountain gates. Arusha is closer to the northern safari parks and has more restaurants and hotels.
