Arusha is the safari town: coffee farms on the Meru slopes, a chaotic central market, and the place almost every northern itinerary actually starts, whether your flight ticket says Kilimanjaro or Nairobi.
We meet most guests at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), which is an hour east, or at Arusha Airport (ARK) for domestic hops. Town hotels are a buffer night, not a holiday. If your inbound lands after 5 p.m., take the buffer. Driving to Tarangire in the dark to "save a night" is how people arrive tired and miss the first lion.
Coffee tours, the Cultural Heritage centre, and a walk through the Maasai Market are enough for a spare afternoon. Arusha National Park is the only wildlife worth booking from here if you have a half day. The rest of your time belongs in the parks.
This is also where our office is. If you are joining the Wildlife Heritage Grand Safari or a Kilimanjaro crew briefing, you will sleep here the night before. From Arusha you can be at Manyara before lunch or at Machame Gate by mid-morning.

FAQs
JRO or ARK?
International long-haul uses JRO. Safari light aircraft often use ARK or go straight to the parks. We match the transfer to the ticket you actually hold.
Is Arusha safe to walk?
By day, in the usual hotel and cafe areas, with the usual city sense. We do not send first-timers wandering Soko Kuu at night with a camera.
Can I leave luggage while I climb or safari?
Yes. We store a locked bag at the office or at your pre-trek hotel. Keep passports and a small kit with you.
