Climate

Bagamoyo was a caravan and slave-trade port north of Dar, now a sleepy stone-and-sand town with a ruined German boma and a beach that locals use on Sundays.

If you care about the mainland coast before it became resort, Bagamoyo is two hours from Dar and worth a night. The Kaole ruins, the old harbour and the Catholic mission sit close together. It is not a substitute for Stone Town, and it is not a wildlife destination. Saadani is the park up this same coastline if you want bush and beach on one road.

We use Bagamoyo when a DAR-to-safari connection leaves you with a leftover day and you refuse another airport hotel. Otherwise we send you inland.
