Two nights in the Serengeti so one morning is not spent packing the roof tent.
Tarangire elephants before the long highland road.
A full crater day that is not glued to the Serengeti transfer.
Overview
If you ask us what to do with five days in northern Tanzania, this is the answer. It is the trip most of our first-time guests should have booked instead of a rushed four-day. You still will not live on the Mara River. You will have time to sit on a kopje and let a lion walk past without the guide glancing at the watch.
December to March we can swing the Serengeti nights toward Ndutu for calving if camps have room. July to October we keep you in Seronera unless you upgrade to the migration itinerary. After this, the beach is Nungwi or Paje on the safari and Zanzibar extension.
Collect in Arusha, Tarangire river and baobabs, overnight at a lodge near the park or on the Manyara escarpment.
Day2Into the SerengetiSerengeti National Park
Via the crater highlands and Naabi, arriving in time for an afternoon drive around Seronera.
Day3Full day SerengetiSerengeti National Park
Dawn start, picnic or lodge lunch, late drive. Balloon optional if you booked it months back, not at breakfast.
Day4Serengeti to Ngorongoro rimNgorongoro Conservation Area
Morning game drive as we exit. Rim overnight, cold, with the crater as a black bowl at night if the cloud lifts.
Day5Crater and back to ArushaNgorongoro Conservation Area
Floor loop, picnic, Arusha. We hold a late lunch in town if your flight is the next morning.

Frequently asked questions
Is this good for children?
Yes, from about five years old, with a private vehicle. We cut the longest day if someone is done. The family version of this loop is the 6-day itinerary with a slower Tarangire night.
Where do we sleep?
Mid-range lodges and tented camps unless you pay for a specific lodge. Names go on the quote so you are not surprised by a generator.
