The best acclimatisation before Kilimanjaro, or a great climb on its own.

Overview

Mount Meru is an active volcano that rises above Arusha. The trail starts in savannah, climbs through forest and heath, and follows a narrow crater rim to the summit at 4,566 metres.

It is a demanding trek but shorter than Kilimanjaro, and the wildlife makes the first day special. Read more on Mount Meru.
