Highlights

The first stage of the Marangu route, through montane rainforest to Mandara Hut at 2,720 metres.

Colobus and blue monkeys, giant ferns and clear mountain streams.

A taste of Kilimanjaro with no need to camp, with park fees and a guide included.

Overview

If you do not have days to climb Kilimanjaro, you can still step onto it. The Marangu route begins in dense forest, and a guided day hike takes you up to Mandara Hut, about 2,720 metres, and back down again.

It is a steady climb of around 8 km return. The forest is beautiful, the crowds are thinner than you might expect, and you will get a feel for what a longer trek involves. See Mount Kilimanjaro and our longer Marangu route.
