A 20-minute boat ride from the Msasani Peninsula to Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve.
Snorkelling over shallow coral and a stretch of white sand with palm shade.
A grilled-fish lunch on the beach.
Overview
Just off the coast of Dar es Salaam, Bongoyo is a small, uninhabited island where you can swim, snorkel and lie in the shade. It gives you a proper beach day without a flight to Zanzibar.
Trips depend on the tide and the wind, and we confirm the timing with the boat crew the day before. See the Dar es Salaam page for more of the city.
